Quartzite is a naturally occurring metamorphic rock. Its use in kitchens is expanding due to it being harder and more resistant to stains than other natural stones.

Sandstone is converted into quartzite through heating and pressure usually related to tectonic compression. When sandstone is cemented to quartzite, the individual quartz grains recrystallize along the former cementing material to form an interlocking mosaic of quartz crystals.
